Mission accomplished! After 12 grueling months of construction work amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we successfully launched today the Applied Research and Innovation Laboratory (ARIL) for natural products. ARIL is a dedicated facility for scaling up the production of standardized herbal extracts and its development into herbal drugs, food supplements, cosmetic products, and animal health products. Equipped with 100-1,000 L extractors and vacuum concentrators, ARIL is designed to produce aqueous and ethanolic spray-dried extracts in kilogram quantities for use in dosage form formulation, toxicity studies, stability studies, and pre-clinical and clinical research. The first of its kind in the Philippines, this facility has been made possible with funding support from the Business Innovation through Science and Technology (BIST) Program of DOST. ARIL is now open for research collaboration with university-based natural products researchers.
