The Herbanext Botanical Garden (HBG) maintains a collection of over 250 medicinal plants and species accessions available for student researchers. These include native, endemic, and introduced species with known traditional medicinal use. Availability of leaves, fruits, flowers, and bark of these plants depend on the season of the year. Some plant parts may be immediately available while some may need 2-4 months of propagation. The cost per 100 grams of dried powdered herb, or 10 g of spray-dried extract, is between P1,000-3,000, depending on the plant species and plant part. Plants that are difficult to harvest/cultivate, endemic plants, and barks and flowers, are understandably the more expensive plant materials. The amount covers packing and shipping.
HBG only sells powdered herbs and not live plants. Students can however visit the garden with advance notice to photo-document their plants. Majority of the plants at the HBG will have an accession number which will allow the researcher to trace back their original plant material for future follow-up studies. All funds generated for this service are used for the maintenance of the botanical garden and the addition of new plant species.
